Drama Group - Inside Out
The drama group at HBC has being going for many years now, with many of the older members (sorry but its true!) having started in their teens in the group! We have quite a repertoire, having been involved in modern nativity plays, musical numbers and sketches alike! The drama group provides a message, often with humour, to support the message in a service or to encourage thought. Although we have also done pure entertainment evenings along the lines of “Not the royal variety performance” including dance, song and comedy sketches.
We have worked with other groups, such being involved in town-wide celebrations at the Leisure Centre for Pentecost and at Easter, and have also collaborated with the Selah Theatre Company, a professional group based for a while at the local YWAM base. We did several productions with them – a modern Christmas presentation, and a play called Catwalk. Huw Davies starred in the lead role in the demanding and emotional production based on the story of a man imprisoned for his faith in the Soviet Union, and other members Kate and Marion were also involved. We have also hosted other touring drama groups, including the Saltmine Theatre Company when they have been on tour.
Our members are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds – some trained, others willing and talented amateurs. We have a core group of members and have recently welcomed some new members (hi Alex!), and we rope in others when numbers are required. We are blessed with many talented people in the church.
New links have been made with authors who have provided new material that we are keen to use (thanks Graeme at Quick Christian Skits). If you are interested in drama or theatre then we would be pleased to hear from you – sketch writers and actors are always welcome! For more information contact Kate Phillips.
