Church Leadership

The ultimate authority rests with the Church Meeting, gathered in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and praying to be led by the Holy Spirit.

The Church Meeting is a meeting of the church members usually chaired by the minister. It meets bi-monthly.

Up to twelve deacons (currently 7) working with the minister constitute the church’s leadership team. They have responsibility for the spiritual and pastoral aspects of the work, for the growth of the church and for the practical duties associated with the management of the buildings and staff.

The deacons report to the Church meeting. The leadership team works with other church members through subcommittees.

Wendy Lamsdon

Wendy Lamsdon: Church Secretary

I have belonged to HBC since I was three years old.  I am married to Johnnie and have two married daughters, Kerry and Zaynor and eight grandchildren.  My main responsibility at HBC is the role of Church Secretary and in addition to this, I am a member of Action 4 Youth and the team responsible for Safe to Grow in the church. Prior to retirement in 2004, I worked at the Royal National Institute for the Blind Vocational College as Programmes Manager.  My hobbies include cycling, walking and Victoriana.

Sue Payne

Sue Payne: Church Treasurer

Hinckley Baptist Church has been a special part of my life for around 20 years. Prior to this my husband and I were part of the St John’s Church fellowship and this is where I become a Christian. Whilst at HBC my family and I have been blessed by those who have taught us, prayed for us and befriended us, and in gratitude for what have been done for us, I happily seek to serve the Lord where I can. In the past have worked in SALT. I attend two cell groups when I can. Current my main church responsibility is for the finances of the church along with able colleague Ron Raine, Assistant Treasurer to the church. Recently I have been involved with Pathways and am part of the Management committee. I am also a member of the executive of ‘Churches Together in Hinckley and district’ and was the secretary up until recently. AlterNativity is the alternative Christmas gifts market of Churches Together and I am on the organising body of this. Since it started two years ago it has raised £16k for a combination of local, national and international charities. When I am not busy doing any of the above you will find me at my regular job in a local Insolvency Practice.

Kevin Muggleton

Kevin Muggleton - Deacon

I was born in Hinckley in 1955 and am married to Lesley with three children, Joel, Luke and Alex, and a dog, Dizee. Lesley has her own career and role in the church as well as wife, mother, encourager and home maker. The boys are at various stages in the education system and the dog is always willing to go for a walk. I am an Engineer and currently employed by a gas utility company. I have been a Christian since my early twenties and believe that the church is working with God, meeting the needs of the local and wider community and releasing individuals from oppression. Although I have spent time in teaching and youth work, I find myself drawn to a facilities role in the church, where I fortunately work alongside a strong, knowledgeable and capable team.

Paul Gilliver

Paul Gilliver -Deacon

My background is in engineering, I became a Christian in 1971 and was baptised in 1972. In the mid 80’s felt a call to full time Christian work and did a Discipleship Training School (DTS) with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in 1988 to test this out. God really stretched us during this time and confirmed our calling, putting a particular emphasis on discipleship and bridging mission and the local church. We served with YWAM from 1992 to 2001, where our role was leading and developing Crossroads Discipleship Training Schools and it was during this time that my wife, Joy, and I joined HBC. Our desire is to encourage the British church to become more mission conscious, both locally and globally; by motivating, training and facilitating teams and individuals. I am now in a new phase of ministry, working with Saltmine Trust, focusing specifically on enabling short-term teams working on projects in Bulgaria. Joy & I are also part of the worship team at HBC.

Matthew Binder - Youth Deacon

I was born and grew up in Aylesbury where from a very early age I attended Southcourt Baptist Church. It was here I became a Christian and later in 1999 was baptised.

Between late 2003 and 2004 a number of life changing events occured including moving to Hinckley, starting a new job at Triumph Motorcycles, starting to attend HBC and, last but certainly not least, marrying Lindy. Moby the dog has since arrived into our household bringing with him much exuberance and excitement.

Whilst studying for a degree at Southampton University I was a member of the Christian Union where I lead a cell group and also managed the Christian Union football team. This experience has been put to good use here at HBC where Lindy and I currently run the youth life group (ERIC) and I have been able to indulge my interest in football, playing for the church team.

Helen Drewery

Helen Drewery - Deacon

I joined HBC in 1985 and was baptised and became a member of the Church in 1993. During those years I have been involved in various groups and projects, including SALT, Girls Brigade, life groups, prayer groups, Pathways fundraisers and AlterNativity.

I am married with three adult children, all of whom make sure my life is never dull.  I work in Social Care and in my spare moments I enjoy walking - but not too far and watching a ‘good’ film.  I wish to serve God where He leads me within the Church and the community.

Paul Hurst

Paul Hurst - Deacon

I was born and raised in Leicester and arrived in Hinckley shortly after my marriage to Jackie in 1987. We have two children Vikki and Zac. I became a Christian  and was baptised into the fellowship at HBC in 1994, since when I have been actively involved in most sections of the Church at one time or another.

I have spent my whole working life in construction, whilst socially life involves around football, whether it be playing, managing a local youth side or watching my beloved Leicester City.

My vision for the church has and always remains to demonstrate that the church of the 21st century is relevant and has a massive role to play in today's quick fix society.
